For my feature I chose Megan Garrity. Megan is a former WSU soccer player and Murrow alum. I chose Megan because her story is very unique. She was a standout high school soccer player and recieved many scholarships from top schools, but chose WSU with the interest in the communications department.
While here at WSU, she was recovering from an ACL injury in high school, but was expected to play big minutes. She then tore her ACL again in college and was on her way to rehab with her hopes high. Later in her college career she injured her knee again and medically retired from soccer.
She was heartbroken, but luckily she had Murrow. She was very involved with cable 8, as well as working with the marketing department and working WSU sporting events. She was able to work with Fox, Pac-12, and ESPN while her time at WSU. With all of her experiences at WSU she was able to land a job with the U.S. Soccer team.
She was one of their main videographers and was at the World Cup where the U.S. team won. She has also worked for the Seattle Sounders, and is transitioning away from sports to expand her work experience and her portfolio.
I wanted to share the story of her journey to becoming a well known videographer because of her injury from soccer. I feel like this would be a great redemption story to share and also show people that if you utilize what you have here at Murrow then your possibilities are endless.
